Zul'Aman[Akil'zon] Empty Zul'Aman[Akil'zon]

Post  Gizzli Wed Oct 01, 2008 5:29 am

Raid Setup
Tanks : 1
Healers : 3 - 4
DPS : 5 - 6

Buffs, Potions and Gear
Despite its 10 man level, Zul'Aman fights are quite intense. Even with something like Tier 6, they're quite a challenge, especially for the healers. Therefore, full potions and flasks are quite handy, if not required, depending on the level of your gear. They're even more required if you're aiming to kill all the bosses on the 20 minute timer, where one wipe can cost you the bonus loot chest.

Healers especially should bring plenty of mana potions. You'll need them often.

Boss Abilities
HP - 1,300,000
Melee Strength - 1500 to 2000 on a Black Temple geared tank. Normal attack speed. Overall he has low melee damage.

Gust of Wind - Throws a random player high up in the air, causing falling damage equal to 50% of the player's HP. Akil'zon does this approximately every 20-30 seconds.

Static Disruption - Fires a lightning bolt at a random player, causing 3500 damage to him and everyone in a 12 yard range around him. Also places a debuff which increases nature damage taken by 25% for the next 20 seconds which is stackable up to 10 times. This is used approximately every 10-20 seconds.

Call Lightning - Deals 3800 to 4200 nature damage to Akil'zon's current target (the tank).

Akil'zon's eagle impressionElectrical Storm - Every minute, the boss lifts a random player up 15 yards in the air, where he becomes the centre of a storm for 8 seconds. Every second, the storm deals increasing damage to everyone not standing underneath the lifted player.

It does 800 damage the first second, 1600 the second, 3200 the third and so on. If you don't get underneath the lifted player in 2-3 seconds, you will most likely die from the damage.

Akil'zon will channel this spell, so the main tank must also go below the lifted player as soon as Akil'zon disengages him.

The lifted player is stunned for the duration of the spell. It cannot be dispelled by trinkets, Cloak of Shadows, Ice Block or Divine Shield.

Enrage- Akil'zon has a hard enrage timer of 10 minutes, after which his damage increases to 500%.

The Fight

"Phase" - The 60 seconds between each Electrical Storm.

Akil'zon Positions

Positioning isn't complicated. The main tank stands in the enter of the platform, and everyone spreads around the platform, 12 yards from each other. Melee DPS stands behind Akil'zon.

He will most likely start off with a Static Disruption on a random player, anywhere between 10 and 20 seconds into the fight, and keep doing it randomly every 10 or 20 more seconds.

Spread out unless you're melee DPS. Do not stand near the main tank or you risk affecting him with the Static Disruption damage and (more seriously) the 25% damage debuff. In the case that melee gets unlucky and a few of these stacked do get stacked on the main tank, increase healing on the him as he will take significantly increased Call Lightning damage.

You will get approximately 2, maybe 3, Gusts of Wind per phase. Don't let people get below 50% HP as an unlucky Gust of Wind combined with a Static Discharge can be fatal in those cases. Be ready to use a Healthstone and/or potion if you're below 50% HP and about to hit the ground.

Most raid add-ons are already supplied with a timer for the Electrical Storm. He will use this ability every minute, starting from 60 seconds into the fight. Right before the minute is up, people should start clumping up a bit, but not too much, in order to be able to get under the electrified player quickly. However, be careful with clumping up too early as he might shoot an Electrical Discharge right into the middle of the raid.

As soon as Akil'zon starts channeling his Electrical Storm, the main tank joins the other players under the lifted person. Be careful with healing him as he's likely to take some damage from the Electrical Storm as he runs.

A few seconds after each Electrical Storm is over, Akil'zon will summon about 6-7 Soaring Eagles (8,400 HP), which can swoop down on a random player, dealing 1721 to 1999 physical damage. You will have one Swoop every 5-6 seconds so the damage isn't that menacing.

Akil'zon striking downwardsThere are 3 ways of dealing with these:
1) You can just ignore them and out heal the Swoops.
2) You can have ranged DPS kill them as soon as they spawn.
3) You can have ranged DPS kill them during the Electrical Storm.

If the damage is too much and they're pressuring your healers, kill them. However, if you're are very nicely geared (Mount Hyjal / Black Temple level) you're probably better off just ignoring them.

After the Electrical Storm, the fight goes on like normal with the eventual Static Discharges and Gusts of Wind, until 60 seconds pass and another Electrical Storm will come, and so on ... until the boss is dead.

Class Assignments
Main Tank - Simply keep aggro. No special positioning is required. As soon as you see the Electrical Storm and the boss disengages you, run below it.

Melee DPS - Stand behind the boss and just DPS. A few seconds before the Electrical Storm comes, gather up with everyone else. You can use ranged attacks on the boss during the Electrical Storm if you feel like it.

Ranged DPS - Stay at least 12 yards away from everyone else to minimise the damage and debuffing done by the Static Discharge/Electrical Storm. Do not stay close to the main tank as he suffers the most from the ability's debuff. Gather up with everyone right before the Electrical Storm comes.

Healers - Same as Ranged DPS. Stay away from people and be ready to clump up before the Electrical Storm. Be wary of the increased damage the main tank takes from Call Lightning and Static Discharge/Electrical Storm while under the Static Discharge debuff. Don't let people fall below 50% health so they don't die from the fall after Gust Of Wind, or an unlucky Swoop + Static Discharge combo.

Misc Notes
If you notices that you lack some DPS for Akil'zon, you can try sitting at melee range of him just before he uses Electric Storm so that you'll both be safe, and be in melee range to DPS. Be warned, however, that if this is mistimed you'll have a dead tank due to multiple stacked Static Disruption debuffs.
